New Or Recent Music

New Or Recent Music; is a new section for current music as well as the recent past. All genres! These are good music I feel are worthy of your ear!

miley cyrus, billy ray cyrus, spotify, throwbacks, spotifythrowbacks.com, streaming, youtube, itunes, tidal

Ok. to be honest, I really don’t listen to any of Miley Cyrus music. Come to think of it, I really don’t listen to her father’s (Billy Ray Cyrus) either. However, this new song she’s got called “Flowers,” has a pretty catchy tune. It’s right now ranked at #2, on the Billboard Top 100 charts. Not really a “dance song,” but the beat is enough to at least make your head bop up and down. Check it out, it’s a cute song.

Song: Perfect Match

Artist: Lauryn Hill

Album: A Perfect Match (2019)

Genre: Hip Hop

Wow guys!! Maybe I was totally oblivious, but I don’t think I’ve heard anything new (or major) from Lauryn, since her iconic 1998 album called “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill (1998)!” Ever since that scandal broke out, about her stealing music for “The Miseducation” album, if you haven’t heard about it, you can read it in this Rolling Stones article, despite albums released after that, it kind of felt she was missing in action. I was hoping her daughter wasn’t gonna follow her footsteps, but so far, so good (I guess). “A Perfect Match” is released as a single. She doesn’t come hard like she did on her first album, but the essence of what she represented back in the day, still there. It’s a sweet romantic love song, and I think it really works for her voice. All the tones, tempos, and inflections we heard on her first and only iconic album is undoubtedly present in this song. Only difference is that it’s more laid back.

Erykah Badu - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Song: Tempted

Artist: Erykah Badu

Album: Tempted (2019)

Genre: R&B

When it comes to Erykah’s outward appearance, man, this is one weird lady!!! I swear, sometimes I think Erykah is like a Black version of Björk. Erykah is definitely eccentric. However, she threw down jams back in the day that later on became iconic. Along with James Poyser, Erykah has recently released a cover of a song called “Tempted.” It was originally written and performed by a group called “Squeeze” in 1981. This was was my only favorite song from the group. It’s interesting that Erykah chose to do this song song, since the group never had any top 100 hits. But then again, it’s safe to say that this would be expected of Erykah, because she doesn’t copycat and do what everybody else does. I like the way she did this song, it caught me off guard. ?

Dionne Warwick!!

Holy sh*t!!! Give me a minute while I try to compose myself! ………… She’s got a new album called “She’s Back!” Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Dionne Warwick, but somehow, she’s the last old school artist that I would ever expect to come out with a new album! I have to tell you that, I am impressed with just the mere fact that she dared to come out with a new album, despite the significant shift in music culture. I’m scared of her! I mean, does any of her original fans realize just how old she is? Dionne is now 78 years of age! This is someone who truly has music in her blood.

Kudos For Dionne!

Now, I have to be honest, although, overall I think this is a really, really good album (considering this stage in her music career); but I also have mixed feelings about this album. While I do appreciate a producers stance on needing to keep music new, fresh, and relevant for veteran vocal artists. But I think there comes a time where, certain types of music may not be for everyone. Especially a 78 year old artist. But, then again, this is the legendary Dionne Warwick! Who the hell is going to turn down a chance to produce an album for her? I’ll say one thing, she got a number of heavy hitters doing duets with her on this project. Brian McKnight, Musiq Soulchild, and Kenny Latimore.

The legendary Dionne Warwick - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

First, I guess it would be easier for me to go grew a few of the songs I do like from this double CD set. Yup! You read right, a double CD set! Let’s start with her cover of “How Can You Keep The Music Playing,” a duet with Kevon Edmonds). I liked the way they did this, but at the same time, it works because the melody and background music is a beautiful composition. But I don’t think the duet was a good pair. If the song was done A Capella, it would have sounded horrible. I loved how she rebooted her classic “Deja Vu,” duet with Krayzie Bone. Modern feel, yet it was still Dionne. I also love “Forever In My Heart,” duet with Brian McKnight. I hope this becomes a hit, because I think this is more Dionne’s speed. I think my favorite song in this double album is “You Really Started Something.”

Dionne Warwick - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

She’s got more reboots of her old songs that I think sound really good. She’s even rebooted her old song “Do You Know The Way To San Jose.” She even has Celia Cruz voice on the track. I didn’t understand that at all, it just seemed like such a random thing to do. For the most part, I liked the album, but at the same time, I can’t avoid the feeling like this project was designed in away that she can keep up with the tempos, rather than a fierce music veteran and “here’s my new album.”

Carlton Jumel Smith - SpotifyThrowback.com

It’s been a long time since I was able to say, I truly “love this entire album.” I’m now able to say that this morning! There’s an old artist I’ve discovered a couple of days ago named Carlton Jumel Smith; and he has a phenomenal new album out! Musically speaking this guy has got it going on! His voice, his rhythm, this entire album is perfect! When I examine his background music, his style reminds me a lot of my favorite independent artist Curtis Harding. You have no idea how much I love this style of music. I wish more people would be open to listening to it.

Carlton J. Smith - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

According to some articles I’ve read, Carlton has been making music for well over 40 years. It appears he’s been the jack of all trades. He has his own label, and performed a lot of house and techno music. Which probably means it’s more than likely I’ve already heard his work, and I just don’t remember. He also worked with a few bands singing lead. But this album is shocking, in the sense that most people don’t just switch to entirely different genres, and do well. That’s like Barbra Streisand deciding she now want to try her hand in hip hop! Very risky thing to do these days.

Carlton J. Smith - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Is it possible that because he’s from Harlem, NYC he was able to easily transition from one genre to a genre completely different? Who knows? The first song that got my attention was “Woman You Made Me.” In my opinion, this is the best kind of romance music. Why? The lyrics are genuine, and it’s not all about a quest of getting in her pants. Another song I want you to check out is called “I’d Better.” This song has lyrics you just don’t hear, even back in the day. In essence, he sings about being so impressed with someone of quality, that he decides to make positive changes in his self to win the interest of that person. Love the rhythm to this song. When you get a chance, check out his new album “1634 Lexington Avenue.”

David Garfield - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

This very talented gentlemen is jazz musician David Garfield (man… He has a strong Steven Seagal look about him, doesn’t he?). I wasn’t really familiar with his work to be honest. I recently discovered him sometime early this year. He released an absolutely amazing jazz cover of The Police’s 1978 “Roxanne.” Wow! Wow! I love it! This reinterpretation is amazing in so many ways. First, I think when you redo a song that was incredibly popular and successful, people subconsciously expect that song to somewhat sound close to the original (in my opinion). I just think that’s something inherent in most humans.

David Garfield - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Second, he just didn’t cover the song, he changed the way our minds interprets the song entirely. David basically took his version of “Roxanne,” a song that was in essence about a man in love with a hooker, and made that song sexy with his jazz style. I think that’s deep ?. Now, it appears he’s a pure instrumentalist, so I’m not really sure who exactly the lead singer of this song. There were several people involved on this single release. If I find out, I’ll update this post. Now, I have to be honest, other than his Roxanne cover, I wasn’t too impressed with his music. That’s not to say he isn’t talented, he is.. It’s just not enough to cause me to save in a playlist (other than Roxanne).

Leo Sayer - Spotifythrowbacks.com
LEO SAYER, CIRCA EARLY 1980s

You know, one thing I find weird about having an almost photographic memory, is that I am continuously stunned as to how both age and drugs changes one’s appearance. I literally took a mental snapshot of how the legendary Leo Sayer looked during the prime of his career. Now, my jaw drops as to how he looks now. Leo is almost unrecognizable in my opinion. He even lost his trademark’d fro! I haven’t been in that much shock since I’ve seen the drastic physical change in Billy Joel (Joel has also done a lot of drugs too, not surprised).

Sayer Is Almost Unrecognizable!

Leo had not produced any hits since the 70s and mid 80s. Before Leo even opened his mouth, fans immediately new who he was by his trademark fro! Most of my older readers might remember him from his massive #1 disco hit “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (1977).” Another song that was a huge hit for him was a beautiful ballad called “When I need You (1977),” which by the way also hit number 1.

Leo Sayer - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

I guess Leo has cleaned himself up, and now he has a brand new album called “Selfie (2019).” I have to say that I am utterly impressed! Very impressed. I think fans will enjoy most of this album. I think he’s done a really nice job staying in line with the kinds of music he used to do, yet the album is updated and the lyrics are relevant.

SpotifyThrowbacks.com - Leo Sayer

The first song I really like is “Soul Mining (2019).” This song has a pop/southern sound to it, and it brought out Leo’s old “blue-eyed soul” spirit (if you will). Judging from the streams, this song is his fan’s favorite, as it is now mine as well. Also check out “Occupy (2019).” This is a very youthful song about life, and I think that it could standup to today’s young pop music in my opinion (if promoted the right way). This album is not going to be everyone’s cup of tie, but if you’ve been a Leo fan in the past, you’ll certainly appreciate this album I think.

Brother Zulu - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

? New group, new group!! Ok, I was listening to one of my mobile radio apps and discovered this awesome group!  They call themselves Brother Zulu, and they’re from London. The band members are Lawrence Ajadi, Max Tuohy, Yousef Abdelkhalek, Noah Nelson, & Alex Hillman. You can’t get a more diverse band than this one here! This appears to be a very new band  just starting out. In fact their so new, I can’t even find a full album. From 2016,  2018, and now 2019 have all been single releases. That’s quite interesting, considering the age of music streaming.

Brother Zulu - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

I’m not quite sure of all the different nationalities within this band; however within the band itself, there’s a beautiful mixture of eclectic taste. The first song I heard from them is called “Fine (2019).” This is a great song! But the song is so unique, I’m not even sure what category this falls under. I guess for the sake of simplicity we can just throw it in R&B; however, I hear so much more than that. The lead singer’s voice texture is almost reminiscent of the late Prince, and sometimes I even hear a little Michael Jackson, yet it’s still his own style. The have a Facebook page, check them out! This song is definitely getting saved to my playlists.

Joey Quinones - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Alright! This is probably the shortest blog post I’ve ever written ?. Yesterday, I’ve discovered an artist by the name of Joey Quinones. It appears that he only released one single this year, it’s called “Don’t Tell Me (2019).” I absolutely LOVE this song! I love the classic feel of the song, I love his falsetto, and I love the classic art he chose for the album cover. Unfortunately, I can’t find any information about him. He doesn’t even appear to be on Bandcamp. Sucks! But check this song out tho, the sh*t is boss!!

Kelly Finnigan - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

You guys need to check this dude out as soon as you can! Oh….. My….. Goodness!!! This man has a voice on him!! I can’t remember hearing any other Caucasian artist (at least in this generation) that deserves the title “Blue Eyed Soul.” Soul music is being reborn before my ears! ? Kelly Finnigan is a lead singer of a group called “Monophonics,” which is an indie band. Finnigan just released a solo album that sounds awesome. Just like my new favorite independent artist, Curtis Harding, Finnigan has captured the spirit of classic soul, and brought it back in today’s time line. The essence of soul is so authentic, if I did not google him, I would have sworn up and down this was something from the 60s.

SpotifyThrowbacks.com

I haven’t found a whole lot of juicy information about Finnigan to share, so I’ll just leave you with some of his new music I absolutely love. First off, check out my top favorite from his new 2019 album called “I Don’t Wanna Wait.” You can’t get more new age soul than this song right here. You wanna know what else is special about this song? Not only is it authentically soul, he written this song from scratch! Actually, I think his entire album was written by him. That’s what I’m talkin’ about!! Also check out “Catch Me I’m Falling.” Another great masterpiece!! It looks like he released only the first song from his new album to Spotify; and the second song (which was released last year). If you’re interested, you can get his music on Bandcamp. I’m a little aggravated that he didn’t offer more samples of his music. However, I’m really digging his music so far, and I may buy/pre-order his new album anyways.

Isn't It A Shame by Tracy Hamilton / Pieces Of A Dream - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Have any of my readers heard of Tracy Hamlin? Speaking for myself, I have never heard of her until recently. According to my research, she’s been around for quite some time. She started out performing in a modern jazz band called “Pieces Of A Dream.” The band has been around since 1976, however, Hamlin didn’t join the band until the mid 80s. The group was best known for their hit “Fo-Fi-Fo.” The song reached #15 on the R&B charts in 1984.

The Best Remix I Heard In A Really Long Time!

Well, Miss Thing came out with a new dance remix this year. It’s a cover of Randy Edelman’s song called “Isn’t It A Shame (1975).” Now, I didn’t know who the hell Randy was either. I discovered that he’s a composer for a lot of movie soundtracks such as Anaconda, and TV Shows, such as MacGyver. Unless I’m mistaken, this song really wasn’t well known until girl group Labelle covered it in their album Chameleon (1976).

Isn't It A Shame by Tracy Hamilton / Pieces Of A Dream - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

Well guys, I found an unexpected gem. Tracy’s version of “Isn’t It A Shame,” released this year in 2019, blew my socks off!! The song was mixed by DJ Spen & Thommy Davis. Girl friend hit those notes like it was absolutely nobody’s business. ? A dance mix that was very nicely done. I really appreciate her not trying hard to sing like Patti Labelle. She sang the song beautifully using her own style. Please do check out her single. Spotify only seem to have Randy Edelman’s movie scores available. But here’s a YouTube video performing his own original song “Isn’t It A Shame,” published in 1975.

Looking for love by Michelle Lawson - SpotifyThrowbacks.com

I found what I believe to be a really hot song by singer Michelle Lawson. Other than the fact that she looks like Lynda Carter (kind of), there isn’t a whole lot of juicy information on her around the internet. The most significant thing I found out was she is (or was) on a show called X-Factor, produced by Simon Cowell. X-Factor is a British talent show similar to “America’s Got Talent,” and “American Idol.”

Best Known As A Contestant On X-Factor

I’ve seen little snippets here and there of X-Factor on YouTube, but I’ve never seen an entire show. Having seen Simon be a judge on American Idol; knowing Simon has an overbearing obnoxious attitude;  I know X-Factor had to be an unbelievably difficult talent show to be on. But from what I heard so far, I know she nailed it every time, if not most of the time.

Michelle Lawson from X-Factor. SpotifyThrowbacks.com

The song I think everyone should give their ear to is “Looking For Love.” The single was just released this year, distributed by Rhythm Records. It’s a dance/club song with a lot of rhythm and a wonderful flow. Personally I think she nailed this song; and every note that came out of her mouth was precisely on key with the music. Now, I don’t believe I’ve heard of her until now; but as I look on Spotify, she’s had some albums out since 2003. Her voice is reminiscent of Mariah Carey (with Michelle having more control over her voice (if you ask me)).

Great Perfume Gifts at Sale Prices Under $25 at FragranceNet.com

Sam Smith, is probably (arguably) one of the most successful out gay persons in music today.

You know, before I get to his song “Promises.” I’d like to say that, arguably…… Sam Smith (in my opinion), could very well be one of the most successful out LGBT musicians in today’s pop culture. I mean, he’s even larger than Adam Lambert was, since his first major break on American Idol. They’re both talented, but let’s be real, Adam Lambert has a set of pipes on him. If you can lean a gig, singing with the legendary rock group Queen, you’ve got talent! However, Sam’s unique smooth and relaxed voice attracted the attention of many types of music fans, as well as LGBT supporters.

5 Top Tens, Within Four Years!

Just a shy over four years, Sam has managed to land 5 top ten hits! That’s incredible! That is not easy to do. However, even in this era of music streaming, I still think that if he was already out before he released his albums, he would not have had the same success. I mean, technically speaking, Adam has a trained voice, and look how much hell he got on American Idol! I also think the obvious….. Despite the micro movements towards LGBT acceptance, “straight acting” is still a major problem in the entertainment industry, be it music or film.

Sam Smith is an inspiration to the LGBT community.

Fans fell in love with his song “Stay With Me (2014),” from his album “In The Lonely Hour,” which reached #2 on the Top 100 Charts.  The next song that would become Sam’s next hit was, “Too Good At Goodbye (2017),” from his album “The Thrill Of It All,” which reached #4 on the Top 100 Chart. However, the song I really like from him did not reach high on the charts. It was the last single (I believe) he put out in 2018. The song is called “Promises.” Promises, is way down at #65, what a shame. I’m shocked that the song ranked so low. I loved his… Almost like a Bing Crosby sound. The song was mixed by Calvin Harris.  There’s a remix album for this song, done by various DJs. Check it out on Spotify. Some of them sound hot.

Hurt Somebody by Noah Kahan

There’s actually two versions of Hurt Somebody by Noah Kahan I like. The first version is a duet with Julia Michaels, released this year. Despite the title and the lyrics, this is actually a surprisingly upbeat song. It’s somewhat danceable. The second is Kahan’s solo version. I think I like the first, with Julia better (although I think she’s trying really hard to get that Mariah Carey sound). There voices seem to blend perfectly, without overwhelming each other’s sound. I accidentally found this song while browsing through one of those “what’s happening now in music websites.”

Noah Kahan Is A Newcomer

As far as I can tell, Kahan started gaining notoriety sometime in 2017. I really like his type of music. I guess the best way to describe his music is, modern folk, laced with pop. He writes and performs his own music. Now, I find it incredibly interesting that Noah is an American artist, but, is popular outside the us! Hurt Somebody hit #14 on the Australia charts, and reached #29 in New Zealand. I guess validates the broad reach of music streaming!

Good Music, However His Videos Are Traumatizing

I’ve watched a couple of Noah’s music videos, and although I think he produces good music, however his videos are traumatizing. Meaning, a lot of his videos seem to convey he can’t do anything right, therefore the world is falling on top of him. Which is interesting because it’s a complete contrast to how good I think his music actually is. Then again, I have to take in to account he’s in his early 20s, so I guess that’s about right.

Noah Kahan, singer and songwriter

I want to write about one last song called “Tough” by Quinn XCII, which features Noah Kahan. It’s another great song that was released some time this year. Again, this appears to be another one of those “teenage struggle” songs. However, this one is unique, and yet deep at the same time. Now, this song feels very ambiguous to me, but then again, maybe the song was meant to be that way. The song appears to be somewhat of a love song, however it appears that the song doesn’t directly identify the gender of the person Noah is singing about. Although, I could not find any information as to whether or not he’s LGBT or not, I’m going to make an educated guess he’s possibly bi.

The Song Revealed No Gender, But..

The song flows so wonderfully, if I didn’t listen closely to the lyrics, I probably would have never noticed. Noah sings about someone who tries to act tough, but Noah knows he’s not as tough as the person make themselves out to be. Read the following beginning lyric, “Maybe it’s ’cause your mom never kissed you; If you ever cried, you’d wipe with muscle tissue. You bench pressing more than me’s not the issue I know you’re actually weaker than that; Let’s hope that nothing get deeper than that.” Ok, I guess it’s a safe bet that Noah is singing about a guy. “Muscle tissue,” is not the typical lingo or phrase we’d use talking about a woman. He then sings, “You’re not so tough, I know that nightlight’s on when you sleep. You’re not so tough. Yeah, you watch Eat Pray Love on repeat.” To mention “nightlight” suggest a closer than average relationship. So long story short, I perceive this song to be beginning love story between two guys, and Noah trying to get his insecure love interest to open up. I just loved the way Noah put this together, it was very subtle, yet a great positive song. Noah has a cool website, and he posted all his latest music videos. Also don’t forget to check him out on Spotify.

Leon Bridges's "You Don't Know (2018)," in my opinion , is the best new classic dance sound almost at the end of the year.

Leon Bridges’s “You Don’t Know (2018),” on his new album “Good Thing” in my opinion , is the best new classic dance sound almost at the end of the year. I not only love the obvious classic look of this album cover, but I can also appreciate the authentic classic sound. Even his music videos has that old school flair to it. The mixture of color filters, while clearly capturing modern scenery is brilliant.

Spirit Of Amy Winehouse

You know, he reminds me a lot like a “male version of Amy Winehouse,” in that he’s a very young artist that has chosen the genre of classic sound. I am VERY please that I’m finding more and more younger artists that are doing this. Thank goodness there still exist parents out there who are musically cultured and pass that culture down to their children!

Esquire Interviews!

This new talented young artist has got a lot of buzz going around! Interesting that there doesn’t appear to be any bio’s about him (at least from  my research), but he has been interviewed by magazines such as Esquire. In the first few paragraphs of this article, you quickly get a sense that Leon is truly down to earth, and that he is comfortable with his art, music, and overall creative direction.

More Of His Music

There’s another song that I recommend that you check out. It’s called “Bad Bad News.” It’s on the same album, and I think the beat to this song is really hot. Please also check out his album called “Coming Home (2016) Deluxe.” It includes 5 additional songs in comparison to it’s first release in 2015.

Tearing At The Seams (2018) by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, I've been eyeing this artist for a little bit

You know, I’m still trying to get a sense of what their music is all about. Their music is kind of all over the place. Mind you, I feel these are very talented guys! I guys what it really is, is that the entire band is eccentric, and you’re left feeling like you’re not sure where to place them. When I like an artist or band, it’s still kind of important for me to figure out what style of music they represent. Kind of heart to talk about them to other music lovers, if you don’t have a concrete description of their music. If I demanded that I give you an explanation of what category the fell under, the best and closest description would probably be what I would call “Hillbilly Blues.” But, Some of their songs isn’t really that either. You’ll have to check them out for yourself.

Tearing At The Seams

The song that really caught my attention is “Tearing At The Seams.” This song is so different from all their other pieces I’ve heard. I almost want to put Nathaniel in the category of “blue eyed soul.” When I heard this song, it immediately reminded me of the kinds of music that Otis Redding would have sung if he were still alive. I must say, whatever negative perceptions you may have drawn from look of his photograph (musically speaking), don’t let that fool you! Because this man can sing! Really really sing. In 2015, he released a song called “Howling At Nothing.” Another great song that throws me back to the days of Sam Cooke almost. Check out Nathaniel and his band’s website. Looks like a lot of people follow his music.

Better Days by a group named Soul Basement is a very nice new song, I never heard of them before until today, however, it looks like I only like this one song

I discovered this group while searching for another recently. I really like their song “Better Days” released this year. The song was written by Fabio Puglisi & Jason Harden. Soul Basement is actually not a group, but Fabio Puglisi’s stage name (right). He produces a lot of Italian jazz, hip hop jazz, and beats. He has actually been around for a while, since about 2004 actually. First off, I have to say this art made Fabio look like Andrew Zimmern from the food channel! I couldn’t help it, that’s all I kept thinking ?? Now, the song comes from his new album called “Oneness,” and the song features I guy named “Jay Nemor” (left). Although I’ve enjoyed this song very much, I’m not sure how I feel about Jay’s voice throughout the rest of this album (and his other albums for that matter). I’m just going to come out and say it. His voice doesn’t sound genuinely his. What I mean by that is, I get the strong impression he’s trying hard to copy another famous artist’s style. When I listen to “Better Days,” it almost sounds like I’m listening to Sly Stone. Other music I hear from him, he sounds like he’s trying hard to mimic Lou Rawls. Believe me, I’ve listened very carefully, and I can usually tell the difference when an artist naturally sounds like someone else; and when someone tries to literally mimic another artist verbatim. That is usually a turn off for me. But….. I don’t know, maybe you guys may feel differently. Listen to the album and judge for yourself. Again, I did enjoy the song “Better Days.” To learn more about Jay Nemor. Also, if you’d like to learn more on Soul Basement, he has a website, or you can just search on Spotify.

Le Freak (remix) By Oliver Heldens is the best Chic remix I've ever heard in my life, I must have replayed this mix about 50 times before I got tired of it, club fans I recommend you take a listen

This remix of Chic’s “Le Freak” by Oliver Heldens is freak’n’ awesome!!This is absolutely the best Chic club remix since I can remember. I am stunned, talk about coming out of left field? This is the kind of intense club music I remember growing up in the 80s. You just don’t hear great club music like this anymore, at all. However, It seems as thought this is the only mix I like from him. I found out he’s a well known DJ, but he mostly does EDM music. Rarely have I heard EDM music I like. Call it getting old, I don’t care.. ? But……. Yo, this Chic remix is hot I think.

Figure It Out by Lucas Estrada & Pawl, I actually like this song, and you know what - If Drake actually sang, he'd probably sound more like Lucas

Believe it or not, I actually like this new song “Figure It Out,” by Lucas Estrada and Pawl. You know what? If Drake actually tried to sing, he’d probably sound like Lucas! ? When I listen to the rhythm of this song, it reminds me A LOT of Stevie Wonder’s “Master Blaster (1980)” for some reason. Remember that song? You know, for a very young artist, I hear a lot of soul in his voice. I think this is a very nice track.

Why Her Not Me by Grace Carter, one of the most talented new Black vocal artists I've heard in a very very long time, I highly recommend that you listen to her new single

This, is a badass bitch right here!! I LOVE her new single!! She is one of the very few vocally talented, young, and up and coming musicians I’ve heard in a really really long time!!! Her name is Grace Carter, and the name of her song is called “Why Her Not Me.” Damn! Her voice is on point!! You know what? After listening to this song so many times, I realize her voice reminds me a little of Adele’s . Now, after I got over the awesomeness of her voice, I started focusing on the lyrics. I hated the story line of the lyrics. Her voice projects a powerful woman, yet she let herself to be brought down by a dude that obviously didn’t deserve her time and love. It was almost as tho her voice should not have been singing this song. Yet… She laid that performance down like she owned our ears. You have to check out her remix, the beat is kicking… “Why Her Not Me – Channel Tres Remix.”

Don't Matter To Me by Drake, It's a new song and although I'm not a huge fan of Drake, I love the background music to this song

Ok. I was never a huge fan of Drake, I only liked maybe two of his older songs. I think he made some good dance beats, but I never considered him as a “singer.” Drake’s voice is too unbearably monotone. That said, my feelings are the same concerning his new song “Don’t Matter To Me,” released on his double CD. What? Double CD you said? Yup. Back in the day, you only released a double CD/album when you’ve been in the game for awhile, and you want to put out a greatest hits album. I guess he just wanted to increase his chances one one or two songs being a hit. The background music is hot, as well as dramatic. You what? Listen to the background really close, doesn’t it remind you a little bit of Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana?” By the way, you know you’re making money when you can afford to put the late MJ’s voice on your song. I give this song 4/5 stars. But the rest of this double CD…. ?

Only You by Theophilus London (Featuring Tame Impala), new 2018 single with a classic disco beat, I love it

I had to do a whole lot of researching first, to make sure this was an actual new song. Theophilus made this song as if he literally time traveled; written and produced the song in the disco 70s era; made a bunch of copies and traveled back to the future to share it with us ? ? ⏳ I absolutely love this song! Theophilus’s voice sounds amazing on this song. So, “Only You,” is a brand new song that has already received 405k Spotify plays, almost 200k views on YouTube, and about 11k Shazams! Interesting that someone who is known as a psychedelic rock performer, would turn around and produce this wonderful piece. If I saw his genre first, I probably would not had bothered to listen to it. I’m glad I did. Dropping it into my albums! Hope you’ll enjoy it too.
